| Abstract(E) | This paper describes the status of the calculations concerning noise and vibration of car drive trains at Volkswagen. These calculations give information about the dynamic behaviour of the engine and its applied parts. The main goal is the reduction of the sound level of an engine-block by structural modifications. The calculations are done by finite-element-analysis. The calculation process will be presented and further steps in the developments will be discussed. The results show that the stiffening of an engine-block can reduce the sound level by more than 4 dB. |
