Translation |
| Abstract(E) | An Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) system not only controls vehicle speed but it also controls the headway as soon as a slower vehicle appears. Such a system supports the driver resulting in a reduction of the workload. It may also lead to more smooth driving behaviour and homogenized traffic flow resulting in increased comfort, reduced fuel consumption and emissions and less traffic jam. Due to safe distance driving a positive impact on traffic and traveling safety can be expected. In this paper the design of an ACC system is addressed. Different sensor principles for distance measurement are derived. The system performance is shown based on experiences made by driving tests with a coach. |
