Abstract(E) | Due to the restraints of fixed mechanical properties, conventional V-belt continuously variable transmission (CVT) usually could not match the engine output perfectly. Therefore the optimal acceleration performance and fuel economy of motorcycles could not be obtained simultaneously. This paper proposes using an Electronically-Controlled CVT (ECVT) to replace the conventional CVT in the motorcycles. Then the speed ratio of the ECVT could be changed according to the driver's desire to have the optimal acceleration performance or fuel economy. In this paper, a dynamic model of motorcycles with CVT/ECVT was built using MATLAB/Simulink software and validated with experimental data. Then optimize procedures were developed to design optimal speed ratios of the ECVT for the acceleration performance and fuel economy of motorcycles using the validated simulation program. Last, the experiments were executed on a motorcycle dynomometer to verify the correctness of optimal designs. |
