| Abstract(E) | Large-eddy simulation (LES) has been applied to investigate the unsteady aerodynamics of road vehicles. Six degrees of freedom equations of vehicle's dynamic motion were installed in the unstructured finite volume LES code developed, and its motion was numerically reproduced by the coupling of the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian method and Navier-Stokes equations in non-inertial reference frame. The simulation code was implemented on a massively parallel processor to satisfy the demands of large-scale and long-term aerodynamic simulations of full-scale vehicles with complicated geometry. As a typical application of the method developed, unsteady aerodynamic forces acting on a simplified heavy duty truck in strong wind gust and their effects on the vehicle's path was investigated. |
