| Abstract(E) | Fatal single vehicle accidents were analyzed. Also the number and rate of fatal accidents for single impacts against a structure in 2001 and 2008 were analyzed. The author indicated that the difference between fatal accidents rate against an utility pole and that against a guardrail was vary depending on what kind of objects was collided with when the vehicle departed from a lane of the roads. In order to reduce the injuries of occupants in impact against an utility pole, it is efficient to install enough guardrails and to improve configuration of guardrail ends along with enhancing vehicle’s impact safety performance; and it is necessary to improve from both vehicles and road infrastructure perspectives. |
