Abstract(E) | This paper introduces a new type of railway vehicle and also describes the way it was developed. It is shown that the use of a mechatronic approach in order to realise a modern design of railway vehicles results in lighter construction and better ride comfort even at a higher speed. The new construction, however, requires the use of active components for various purposes like for steering the wheels, for active vehicle body suspension or even for active tilting of the vehicle body. This paper focuses on one particular active steering method: direct steering. The paper has three parts: in the first part the development of the control strategy is detailed, then the actuator technology and its effect on the overall performance of the system is studied, and lastly the safety analysis of the steering system is introduced using fault tree analysis method. |
