Translation |
Abstract(E) | A small amount of some kinds of surfactant additives could cause significant frictional drag reduction in wall-bounded turbulent flows. In this tutorial paper, we present recent large-region PIV measurements with four CCD cameras for turbulent boundary layer due to the injection of nonionic surfactant. Very large-scale coherent structures appear periodically in the case of large drag reduction ratio beyond 60%. Such structures expand to beyond twice of the boundary layer thickness in the streamwise direction, which are far from typical near-wall coherent structures of Newtonian fluids. |
