Translation |
Abstract(E) | In bolted joints and bolt/nut assemblies, the most important parameter is clamp force because bolt fatigue failures and bolt loosening significantly depend on the clamp force. However, it is not easy to control and maintain the clamp force in the tightening process and in service because we cannot measure the clamp force for each bolt during the tightening process and after tightening. In our laboratory, we proposed two methods to measure the clamp force after tightening and to tighten the bolt/nut assembly with the appropriate clamp force. In these methods, a protruding bolt thread portion from a nut is pulled with the nut upper surface supported. The method to measure the clamp force after tightening uses the relationship between the pulling force and the displacement at the loading point, and the clamp force is detected by an inclination change of the pulling force against the displacement. In the method to tighten the bolt/nut assembly with the appropriate the clamp force, after the protruding bolt thread portion is pulled with the target clamp force, the nut is tightened while measuring the relationship between the pulling force and the displacement at the loading point. Here, I explain the introductions of the methods and these experimental results. |
