Abstract(E) | Tesla uses a huge die-casting machine to mold each of the Model Y’s front and rear underbody in one piece. This method, known as GIGA PRESS(Mega Casting), has some challenges in terms of implementation and cost. However, this unconventional new technology could fundamentally change the design and production of cars. If the GIGA PRESS becomes widespread in the automotive industry, automakers will need to rethink their product strategies, which have been built on modular architectures. |
