Abstract(E) | Though the tire lateral and vertical forces are crucial variables for analyzing vehicle safety performances, they cannot be easily measured in real-time owing to the nonlinearities of tire dynamics, friction, and slippage on road. And the estimated tire forces using tire cornering and vertical stiffness and wheel side-slip angle have some errors compared with the real values in various driving situations. In this paper, we propose a practical indirect method using vehicle accelerations in order to estimate tire lateral and vertical forces transmitted into the vehicle in real-time. The proposed dynamic equations exclude the stiffness and damping elements of a vehicle for eliminating phase-lag circumstances and securing real-time performance. The vehicle acceleration values are obtained using conventional three-axis accelerometers attached on each wheel. And the proposed method is validated with the road test results using six-component wheel force transducers. |
