Abstract(E)The paper focuses on the development of H2-specific components as well as the thermodynamics investigation of the engine in PFI and DI operation. The performance target of >80% of the baseline engine (315kW) and a very good thermal efficiency is demonstrated (>44%).
Second main topic is to ensure uncritical hydrogen concentration in the crank case. An active ventilation system, including the High Pressure Impactor (HPI) component, uses scavenging with ambient air to ensures safe hydrogen concentration levels. Its development was aligned with the hydrogen PCU applied, which in turn is optimized for excellent blowby performance.
